Dear Customers,

Egg production is slowing as the temperature continues to drop.  We will have to keep a light on for the chickens for at least 14 hours a day to keep them laying.

Despite the cold 32 degree weather, the chicks have all survived and are doing well.

Firewood is available, and please return green egg cartons.

I added new pictures to the website from the fair. You can view them here.

Today's fun facts come from the Backyard Poultry magazine:  Eggs contain almost all nutrients necessary for life, except vitamin C.  They also contains antioxidants that reduce the risk of some eye and heart diseases.  Second to mother's milk, eggs have the highest quality protein found in food.  In addition, eggs produced by chickens with access to pastures contain less cholesterol and saturated fat, but more vitamins A, D, and E, omega 3, folic acids, and beta carotene compared to eggs laid by caged hens.

Thanks,

Harry and Lauren Hawkes
