President's Day Newsletter

Dear Customers,

This week was very busy down at the barn as five ewes delivered lambs.  Many of them are larger and stronger than last year, which is great! Surprisingly, there are 8 females and only 2 males.

Also, we are currently helping a family friend who works for Teach For America.  She is a 6th grade English teacher at a school in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  98% of the students receive free or reduced price lunches and over 50% speak English as a second language.  Many of the students need to improve their reading skills to pass the state reading test so she tries to motivate her students to read more.  Through the generous donations from two publishers, Macmillan and Harper Collins, and profits from Hill House Farm, we were able to send over 430 books, including the popular Divergent series and Newbery Award Winning A Wrinkle In Time

We would like to make an editorial correction to last week’s fun fact.  The Olympics have been held in the Southern Hemisphere, but the Winter Olympics have not.

Fun Fact: A study done by the University of Buffalo has concluded that access to possible realities and fictional story lines opens you up to new emotions and feelings.  It also helps you to empathize with people, by understanding different cultures.

Thanks,

Lauren and Harry Hawkes
